How Coronavirus (COVID-19) is affecting EVs ...
]
-personal experience- (ot)
Today was an exercise day, so I was out and about trying to
complete tasks before I run out of energy and or the arthritic
pain becomes too much. But I experienced the public's fear
driven panic while shopping.
I kept noticing the stores' shelves in isles were empty, and
the stores seemed under staffed. At a major local grocer chain
store, the parking lot was jammed/cram-packed, far more than
just a busy Friday afternoon (tough to find a spot, tough to
get in or out of the lot).
Again the store seemd under staffed, and there were huge empty
spaces where grocery stock used to be. Clearly, store staff has
to 'bust-their-butts'/work much harder to replenish store stock
while at the same time the public is cleaning them out/grabbing
it up. If youthink about it, this also puts a strain on truckers
to replenish the stores, more traffic jams, etc. (on down the
line). Panic buying is affecting many areas of society.
As I was self-checking out to leave the store, the lone store
staff person (when there are normally 3 staff for those
stations), was humping her butt/working-hard to do the work of
3, and also constantly spraying, & wiping-down, to clean the
many self check out (touch-screen) stations.
Not all stores were this contagion-control fastidious. When I
was previously at a walmart, it was business as usual, as
everyone had to use the same grody touch screens and sign-for
pick-up items on the same grody hand-held devices. Our society
has so many ways to transfer the virus, that not shaking hands
and switching to elbow bumps aren't enough to deter virus
transfers.
I felt I had just enough energy for my last stop to get a
renewal flu shot at my local VA Hospital. This does not sound
like a big deal/effort, but that VA site really needs a
multi-level parking structure. So, their crammed parking lot
makes for quite a long hike to the entance even when using my
rollator/walker.
As I entered, there was a nice older (disabled) gal in her
electric mobility cart off to the side acting like a door
greeter (ending our brief chat with a typical TX 'have a blessed
day'). Our brief chat came 'round to inform me the local schools
had been closed because of the virus pandemic scare
https://www.google.com/search?q=corona+suspend
(perhaps that is where she would normally be if they were still
open / her day job?).
I got my flu virus shot, not that it hasn't any affect on the
corona virus, but now that I am old, I need to spend time keep
myself healthy so, I can keep doing good deeds for society like
posting EV newswires and attending a few EVents each year.
Below are some links I used to to learn more (knowledge is
power) about the virus:
https://www.publichealth.va.gov/n-coronavirus/
a VA page, which links to
https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/cases-in-us.html
show a map of te virus' spread in the .us, whh came from
https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/index.html
the cdc's main page
IMO, bottom line, as one veteran shared with me 'until this
(pandemic) thing is sorted out, we are just going to have to
stay clean, stay informed, etc. He (wisely) didn't even elbow
bump, he just would give you a strong eye-contact head nod
instead.
