I don't think the technology is a problem. For example, Longbeach CA is starting an e-tractor program. There are companies like BYD making them right now. I believe the biggest hurdle is the drivers. At least here, the drivers own their tractors and aren't willing to take that big a loss to switch over right away. What would you do if you made a $100K 10 year investment ?

apply immediately.

Seems pretty straightforward.  I imagine, if there were enough money in it, 
someone would be doing it.  There are quite a few starting points. Electric 
buses.  The coming generation of highway electric truck tractors.  Operational 
electric ferries.  Even airplanes might be considered a starting point.  The 
CyberTruck.

Wayne Alexander was doing tugs.  I think to push airplanes around.  That was 
quite a few years ago and I don't know what happened to the project.  Or, what 
became of Wayne.
