This is the minimum you can get with a resistance welder. I typically put four welds on each end of each tab. I do this in two welding operations well separated in time. This lets the heat dissipate from the first weld. This is both for current carrying ability, and for redundancy. (The weld do not always works perfectly, so four spots is better than two spots.) 40 amps is toward the large end, so I suggest you put four spot welds on each end of each tab. Bill D.
