IMO, for us hobbyists, it makes sense to go with pre-built batteries from 
reputable manufacturers, or to contract with someone experienced to custom 
build a battery. 

Yeah, it costs more, but you're fairly likely to get something that works 
reliably and lasts.  You also avoid the risk of unpleasant or fatal 
accidents during battery assembly.  Those little cells can produce an 
astounding amount of power.
