Governments are generally good at creating problems; but not so good at
fixing them. Governments are usually left to fix problems when no one
else is willing or able to do it.
Private industry is good at finding solutions. But they charge more for
their services.
In a case like this, perhaps government is creating a problem so that
private industry will be motivated to solve it.
This isn't as radical as it seems. It's happened a great many times,
with many technological changes. The government bans some common
practice that is convenient for individuals, but bad for society as a
whole. So people invent new ways to get around it. Why do you think we
can no longer dump our sewage in the river? Or throw our garbage in the
street? Or have to buy city water instead of using our own wells? Or
can't burn coal to heat our homes?
The lack of charging infrastructure should be viewed not as a problem,
but as an opportunity.
