The forward control van's of the 60's were very light as were the pickups. Ford
Doge and GM made them. Similar the the VW vans. Ford never gave the E-series
pickups a V-8. It was straight-six power only. Probably for the better too, as
the weight distribution was horrendous. So much weight was carried by the
I-beam front axle that the E-series was factory-fitted with a 165-pound
counterweight just over the rear wheels. That is a significant chunk of weight
for a vehicle that tips the scales at roughly 2500 pounds. So by pulling that
counter weight and replacing it with batteries you could really balance an old
van or truck for use as an EV. Lawrence Rhodes That puts the Ford at 2,335
pounds "CURB" weight as opposed to GVW or Gross Vehicle Weight which some
people here are confusing with CURB weight.
