In the part of southern Louisiana where we live our electric utility has
already killed net metering for anyone installing new solar panels. That
started on January 1, 2021.

For those of us who already have solar panels and a net meter we are
grandfathered for 10 years, then we lose net metering.

We therefore have been looking into doubling the number of solar panels,
adding more inverters and adding LiFePO4 batteries. When the off-grid part
is working we will cancel the grid. Now I begin to worry about the utility
not `allowing us´ to cancel?

A thought is to separate our house electricity into two parts. One will be
off-grid while the other will be connected to the grid. We don´t like the
fact that a part of the grid electricity in this area is still generated by
burning coal. Our kids and grandkids deserve more.
