You might try calling Nissan's customer service people at 800 647-7261. Folks on the list have said that they weren't very helpful with the infamous hot battery problems back in the day, but even with no real knowledge I'd still guess that the actual cost of this fix is much lower than a new battery was back then. It also wouldn't suprise me, cynic that I am, if yourdealer is inflating the cost because they think they can. Or maybe try another dealer? Yours doesn't sound like it's working very hard to get and keep your business. Keep us posted, please.
