This may or may not be at all related, but I had a Volt for a few months that was traded in with a very scary "Service High Voltage Charging System" message on the dash and it would not charge. I couldn't tell you the codes. The reservoir for the cooling loop on it was empty so I thought it must be leaking somewhere so I filled it with distilled water, the fluid turned pink (GM coolant color), I cleared the code with a generic scan tool and it started charging. It never leaked in the few months I had the car and never had an issue again. It's like the water in the coolant just slowly evaporated over a few years. So check the coolant reservoirs first and foremost. An inexpensive scan tool might talk to it enough to clear any codes, although admittedly I have zero experience with the Spark.
