Stellantis, Citroen's corporate owner, is planning a "modernized" EV version of the iconic Citroen 2CV for 2028.

They'll also build a Fiat Panda version on the same platform. https://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/electric-cars/reborn-2cv-and-panda-frame- stellantis-confirms-new-affordable-evs-2028 or https://cntp.me/Gs5S48R It appears that Stellantis is taking advantage of a recent EU proposal to create a more lightly regulated, lower cost, small EV category, M1E, on the low end of the A-segment. IMO this is desperately needed. Most of the trim, efficient, affordable European A-segment ICEVs of the 1990s and early 2000s are gone. The Peugeot 106, Citroen Saxo, VW Lupo, and Ford Ka are all discontinued. The Renault Twingo and Fiat Panda still exist, but the current versions are larger than a 1990s Renault Clio. Stellantis claim that the 2CV will land at around 15k euros (about US$18k). That's even cheaper than the current EU EV cut-price champion, the 17k euro Chinese-built Dacia Spring. Since they'll be city cars, I'd guess that they'll have relatively short range (~200km) and either no or low-power (~50kw) DC charging. Batteries will probably be LFP. It's possible that either Leapmotor or Dongfeng will be involved in this project, as Stellantis has relationships with both Chinese automakers. There's about a 0.00001% chance that you'll see either one offered in the US, but one never knows.
