I lied. I'm back one last time to clear up the mystery of the silver
microscopic dust.
Examining the swollen module pouches, I really didn't see any silver
dust, but, eh, who knows? After posting my concerns about finding
this stuff embedded in my skin, I continued to wonder what it was and
how concerned I needed to be about a possible inhalation hazard.
Walking through the driveway an hour ago where I tore the modules out
of the pack yesterday, I found a dropped collet that was part of
where the through bolt rods contact the modules. I picked it up and
then realized it was probably contaminated and that I was going to
have to check and see if I had picked up any silver slivers from it.
Sure enough, my thumb and forefinger had new deposits.
About 10 minutes ago, as I was sitting in the shade contemplating
having some coffee, I had a revelation. I went into the garage and
deliberately contaminated my palm in a small location with something
that wasn't related directly to the modules.
The source of my silver dust turned out to be the silvery anti-seize
compound that I put on almost every fastener that I use these days. I
had picked it up while handling the threaded rod through bolts, and
from the bushings and collets where the through bolts had passed
though the modules while removing the aluminum cases of the swollen
modules. There was probably an accumulation of it from yesterday, and
maybe even the day before when I got the pack ready to pull out.
Sorry for the false alarm. Maybe the list needs a wait timer to
prevent dumb stuff that you don't want to send after all from going
out to everyone immediately?
Over and out, we will now resume your regularly scheduled programming.
