I saw the group, but it was private access and I never asked to be let in.

Is this decision based on any actual accidents that have occurred or is
it simply an opinion based decision (it seems like 3 wheels should be
dangerous)?

Have there actually been any Sparrow / NmG accidents while racing?

Ken

Subject: [EVDL] Three-Wheelers at NEDRA Events

Hi all,

In accordance with rules of the National Hot Rod Association (NHRA),
the National Electric Drag Racing Association, (NEDRA) will no longer
permit three-wheeled vehicles to compete at NEDRA sanctioned events
and to compete for NEDRA Records.

This includes two-wheel front, one wheel rear; one-wheel front, two-
wheel rear, in-line configurations; motorcycles with sidecars and
leaning three-wheelers.

This is a disappointment for those of us who have drag raced Sparrows
in the past but the NHRA has safety concerns for these vehicles and
NEDRA must comply with all NHRA rules.

We will update the website in accordance with this ruling.

C'mon Peter, that's not necessary. Roland doesn't deserve that tone.
He's been doing this far longer than most of us on the list and has
earned our respect.

His vehicle is here:

<http://www.evalbum.com/470>

It has a long history. And it's not an Bradley tank, Chuck.

And as Roland has stated before, he *deliberately* designed that load
into the car. He uses it as regen braking going down hills. Plus he
needs cabin heat for his severe winters.

Just because his design is different from yours doesn't make it a bad
design. His design parameters are different.

Thank you, Roland, for sharing your valuable experience so freely on
this list.

Could somebody please send the hi-rez links to me. I am unable to access
Youtube from my current location. Or area they hosted on Youtube also?

Thanks.

Forget brand names. LiFePO4 is a proven technology that has more to offer
V's than any other energy storage to date. The Equation is:

LiFePO4 + quality control + good business ethics = happy EV-ers.

If International Battery has managed to acquire manufacturing rights in the
US without paying an extortionate licensing fee, we should be able to get
warranted batteries for about $0.50/W-hr in a large high output format
suitable for EV's. I hope they do, and more power to them.

It's fair to dis business practices by companies, but not a valid
technology. I suspect the technically minded persons responsible for
development of LifePO4 are disgusted at the way their accomplishments are
(or are not) being implemented.

Do many of you read the ThunderSky YahooGroup? Here is a recent post
that I found highly interesting. Perhaps Dan, Chuck, and others
looking at the bleeding edge of battery development will also.

Except for that whole "cost of labor" issue we have in the US... Which
means it either has to be highly mechanized (as in huge up-front capital
expenditure and large volume requirement) or high prices.

Has anyone on here actually bought one of these motors on Ebay or know if
anyone makes a controller
that will work for them?
Thanks

You can also see my modifications and the details at http://go-ev.net/ on
how the GE traction motor is mated to a transmission, battery connection
modification and more accessory power added.

It snow here six inches for the first time since last year. So I test out
driving in 6 inches of snow at 0 F. going up one a very 1 mile long steep
hill on the road that is in front of my house in the 1st gear ratio of
19.15:1 at 20 mph. It walk right up this hill to the Hill Top Caf?.

Coming down, with out any load on the motor, the EV would run away and be
very dangerous, so I disconnect the accessory electric motor drives and
activated the electric clutch that connects the main motor pilot shaft to
the accessory drive. The EV would do a slow walk down this hill in 1st
gear, so I had to shift it up to final gear of 5.57:1 for a normal drive
down.

It is nice to see O battery amps, O motor amps, 180 volt battery pack at 188
volts, the alternator charging the accessory battery and providing 14.5 vdc
at 60 amps and the inverter supplying 120 vac 60 hz at 35 amps, which is
about 5kw on that run.

Roland
