True, solder alone doesn't work very well.  But then it wasn't designed to 
hold stuff.  It's not welding or brazing.  Solder's job is to reinforce a 
mechanically strong electrical connection and seal it from moisture and air. 
 (SMT notwithstanding.)

A joint that's mechanically solid, then properly soldered, is very sturdy 
and vibration-resistant.  As far as I can see, the only real reason >not< to 
use soldered connections in your EV is for ease of disassembly.
