Martin,
As for why srfsh can't use /tmp/logs, my first inclination is to blame
systemd's privatetmp feature:

My second inclination is to blame our (mis)use of autotools. I
recommend that you follow the directions in the README and only set the
prefix and sysconfdir options. Anything else is likely to break with
OpenSRF and/or Evergreen.
Also, Jason.

Hi Martin, the srfsh log file is saved to the location specified in
~/.srfsh.xml and I’m not sure it’s affected by the configure command
line. Since this is a user file you can edit it to put the log file
anywhere your user can write. (I usually just use
/home/<my_username>/.srfsh.log .)
You’ll likely want to rebuild and reinstall opensrf with the configure
command line in the instructions before trying again.
And you’re right, opensrf doesn’t do much on its own and is only part of
the installation of an evergreen system; Evergreen itself and its
installation instructions are available here:

Hi Everyone
I have been trying to get opensrf installed, and everything works fine
until I try to start srfsh using the opensrf user. The message I
receive is that the the log files cannot write to where I think the
localstated configuration intends it to. I ran the ./configure command
and sent localstated to --localstated=/temp/log but I am still getting
the same error messages. At this point I'm stumped.
This means I can't get opensrf started, and am not sure how to proceed
with installing Evergreen. I'm assuming everything hinges on the
opesrf configuration and install. Also, should there be a separate tar
file to download for Evergreen other than the opensrf file?
Thanks!
Martin
