Hi, Josh! We have had eCARD enabled in CW MARS since late last year.
------ I'm just curious how the setup process went and how the day to day usage has been with it? I was on the periphery through a lot of the setup. I'm sure Jason Stephenson can talk to that a lot more. For my experience, I worked directly with Quipu on testing, and it was a fairly smooth process with good feedback. Day-to-day usage has been great. It's been a very smooth process. We haven't heard from libraries about issues. Patrons have been applying for cards fairly regularly, and we haven't had any complaints. Do you use it to create eCards or full access cards? eCards, but the process creates "full" patron records in Evergreen, so the account's permission group and barcode fields can be updated by library staff if the patron wants to "upgrade" to a full card. Do you make use of any of the add on verification features? This is our verification process: Patrons must pass both a name/address verification* check through a third-party service as well as a duplicate** check against Evergreen. If the patron fails either check, their registration will be denied, and the patron will have to apply for a card in-person. * The eCard vendor, Quipu, uses a third-party service to compare the entered last name and address against the Post Office database. If it finds a suitable match, the submission moves to duplicate checking in Evergreen. If a match is not found, a message is displayed stating as much and lets the patron know that they may still be able to sign up for a library card in-person. ** If the name/address match is successful, the form is then compared against all patron records in Evergreen. If this check finds a patron record with matching name and year of birth, the check moves on to address. If name, year of birth, and address all match, then the submission is denied. The screen will display a message stating as much and asks the patron to contact the library if they need help with their existing account. If no match is found, then the submission moves forward and is considered successful. Do you use it for in-library patron registration? Not currently, but we have discussed this a little internally. I believe setting this up is fairly trivial. Quipu just needs to know IP addresses so that cards can be assigned correctly. Have you come up with a way to use it for account renewals... or have a different method of streamlining renewals? Our eCards are given a 2 year expiration date, which is the same as our full cards. We haven't had eCARD long enough to know how the process will go when the cards start to expire. Because they are just patron records in Evergreen, though, the accounts can be updated just like any account. Quipu is working on a product called eRENEW that we will be investigating.
