We had several systems in our consortium install book lockers this year. They are set up as their own org units (we created a new org unit type called Book Locker for them) as children of the branch they are associated with. Each vendor's software works a little differently, but they all use SIP2 to communicate with Evergreen. Depending on the vendor and configuration, some locations staff check the item in at a booklocker workstation and then load it into the book locker with the vendor software. For others, the vendor software handles the checkin process which loads it into the book locker in one step. Here is an overview we wrote to explain it to our library staff:
https://pines.georgialibraries.org/docs/doku.php?id=circ:holds:book_lockers None of our book lockers have their own on-demand collections (although that is possible with some vendors), so we set the library settings to skip hold targeting. If you use age protection and you have them set up as child org units of branches, then you will probably want to set org unit proximity adjustments - otherwise, it may limit which items can be targeted to fill holds. For instance, we want a book locker to treat its parent branch as if it were the same org unit for the sake of 3 month age protection. This is done through Administration > Server Administration > Org Unit Proximity Adjustments. To account for 3-month age protection for items at the book locker's parent branch, input 0 for the Proximity Adjustment. To account for 6-month age protection for items at the book locker's parent system, input 1 for the Proximity Adjustment. For example, if LOPL is the system, LOPL-SW is the branch, and LOPL-SW-OUT is the booklocker, we'd have two entries: *Branch Level (3-month)* - Absolute Adjustment?: Yes - Item Owning Library: LOPL-SW - Hold Pickup Library: LOPL-SW-OUT - Position: 0 - Proximity Adjustment: 0 *System Level (6-month)* - Absolute Adjustment?: Yes - Item Owning Library: LOPL - Hold Pickup Library: LOPL-SW-OUT - Position: 0 - Proximity Adjustment: 1 On Tue, Sep 23, 2025 at 1:29 PM Chauncey Montgomery via Evergreen-general < [email protected]> wrote: > For those of you who have pick-up lockers, I was wondering how you use > them in relation to Evergreen.
