Dear David, I recollect getting a glimpse of these. This gathering was well
before my time in Open Space but I remember being awestruck by the quality and
intimacy of the videos, interviews and more. Hoping that they become available
and given new life. There were a rare treasure. So glad you found them.

Hi Peggy,
I hope this email finds you well and contented in a world with so many
different challenges. I want to share some joy that I felt when I lost – then
just last week found – all of my video files of the OsonOSinOZ conrference in
Marysville in 2002.
In preparation for our move to the beach [Yay! It’s fantastic and we’ll NEVER
go back to the Big Smoke], I set about digitising all of my hundreds of miniDV
videotapes. Once digitised I then disposed of the actual tapes, saving heaps of
space, which was great, if a little scary.
The tapes I got rid of included all of those taken at OsonOSinOZ at Marysville
back in 2002. I had checked and found a folder called “All Open Space Captures”
in one of my hard drives, so all was safe, or so I thought! Two years later I
opened that folder and IT WAS EMPTY! I had posted all of my video interviews
from Marysville on YouTube, so they were safe, but I was shattered to think I’d
lost my only copies of the entire conference. Devastated? Sad? All of that and
more, until last week…
I was going through more of my hard drives in detail and, Lo and Behold, tucked
away in a sub-folder were all of the captured tapes. They were not lost after
all!! And this is especially good because so many of the videos feature the
Marylands Conference Centre which, along with the town of Marysville, was
totally destroyed by the massive bushfires in 2009. My videos also included the
aerials shots of the guest house and the whole Marysville valley which I filmed
from Nev Kennard’s helicopter. Also included is the Closing Circle, which
finishes with you striding towards me to present the Talking Stick and the
invitation to speak. I put the camera on the carpet while I spoke and the shot
shows you seated beside Brian Bainbridge, both reacting to my words. It was an
incredible, energising experience and I am so grateful that the videos are safe.
Having found all 9 hours of these video clips, I would like to offer them to
Open Space, so they can be archived for posterity. And if anyone can come up
with a little money I would gladly edit up a full version of the conference as
well. The video files take up 160GB of space, so they can easily be downloaded
via DropBox if you think this is worthwhile.
So a New Year begins on a surprisingly upbeat note. And speaking of notes, I
have recently become part of a little group of singers here at the beach, so I
have brought out my guitars and am thoroughly enjoying singing for the sheer
joy of it, with people who just love singing together for fun – a bit like that
amazing sing-along we all had at Marysville.
My most recent work involves filming glass artists as they prepare their
masterpieces and explain why they are addicted to working with this amazing
medium. You can see many of my videos on my current website at

With fond thoughts and many great memories, Peggy,
