I would like to suggest that the brain is the instrument
for converting many sensations not into one conscious
experience. My own experience. Which must mean
that if there is not really a me, there appears to be a me.
As I sit here typing at the computer, a lot is going on.
Behind me, I can hear a fan in an electric resistance heater,
I am typing on computer keys while watching words appear
on the screen, and so forth. But even though much is going on,
I know that it is I that am hearing , seeing, doing this or that,
Think of the brain. All of these nerve signals according to
Penrose may be forming a coherent quantum field that,
by being coherent, unifies my experieces so that they
seem to occur as if happening to me. The coherent field
makes the many into one.
Something like that is not excluded in comp or just in Everett.
It is not even excluded that this can intervene in the curbing of
space-time (Penrose), although it looks quite speculative.
What is excluded is that such a phenomenon makes disappear the many 3p
clusters of coherent histories (as they exist arithmetically).
Consciousness, through brain, makes the 1p from many to one, but does
not make any 1p disappearing. That would be an unnecessary solipsist-
move, and in the case of comp (and Everett) it would even been a form
of self-solipsism, a bit like if both the W-man and the M-man were
considering each other as zombie.
