bunch of crony capitalist friends to get ideas from. As far as the
state withering away, as Marx said, I do not view this as possible,
unless everyone has access to 3D printers and nanofabrication. Like

You're calling them "Marxists" because they paid lip service to Marx,
hence my query about whether you are conflating them. I certainly
haven't - nowhere have I claimed that the so-called Communist,
Socialist or Marxist states were any such thing, in the sense that they
adhered to the actual economic doctrines....
...which they obviously didn't. (Ironically, Marx thought the state
would "wither away" in a true communist society.)
