So, have they been reading "2001" ?! As Arthur C Clarke pointed out back in 1968, the Moon is a far more sensible place for an advanced race visiting the solar system to leave a message for humanity. For one thing, getting there indicates that we're possibly worth talking to (as Eddie Izzard said, God really should have shown up to congratulate us). And for another thing, it's rather more geologically stable. Why bother burying something on Earth where it can easily get subducted or otherwise destroyed, when you have the perfect spot for a time capsule a mere 400,000km away?
