The unofficial convention on plain text email notation is that of
LaTeX, so one would have to write 2^{74207281-1} if you wanted to
include the -1 in the exponent.

There is no distinction between 2^74207281-1 and 2^74207281 -1 in
LaTeX.

Of course, the LaTeX convention is unofficial, and not everyone
understands it, so the envitable misunderstandings and hilarity ensue!
