Homogeneity and infinite space are conclusions from standard cosmological assumptions and models: the big bang, inflation, flat space. I am somewhat partial to the trancension hypothesis <https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S0094576511003304>, but that might be due to my hopeful nature.
