Here, presumably, is the derivation of Planck's blackbody radiation 
formula.  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Planck%27s_law#Derivation . Near 
the beginning is a reference to, and dependence on quantum theory. But in 
1900, quantum theory didn't exist. AG
