Well Thales says water, and in a sense hydrogen is a basis for matter. Democritus says atoms, where particles or maybe in a sense monads, are a basis of physics. Heraclitus says fire, which we can interpret as energy. and finally Pythagoras says mathematics and we could interpret that as information.
