For many of your students, I would expect to find a majority or east Asians and south Asians because scholarship achievement goes back centuries and millennia. Another component I suspect, but have no means of proving this, but excelling in mathematics seems to be based on neurological function, say, with the spindle cells comprising parts of the cerebrum.
