A new technique called "cryo-ET" has allowed scientists to make the most beautiful electron microscope pictures of the interior of cells I have ever seen. The pictures show details that are much smaller than a wavelength of visible light, far beyond what even the best optical microscope can see, so that means the color in the pictures is false, but they were not chosen randomly by an artist, they were chosen by the machine and are informative, they depict the different ways various materials affect a beam of high speed electrons.
