The basic reason for the delay is that it needs share-mime-info support. I submitted a patch [2] for it that was applied and published on version 0.70 [3]. This version of share-mime-info was not supported on GNOME til the lastest development version 2.29.3 [4], so I think we are now ready for applying the patch.
