Evince is specifically designed to support the file following formats:

b.. Postscript
c.. djvu
d.. tiff
e.. dvi
f.. XPS
g.. SyncTex support with gedit
h.. comics books (cbr,cbz,cb7 and cbt)
I decided to try this program, Windows version on XP SP3.
I opened a .xps file - well, tried to - but got a message on a nice red
background saying that xps documents are not supported.
