Folks,

I just got a tablet. The main reason I got it is that there are a huge
number of public domain books that have been scanned and are available
for *free*. (This includes many books that have been reprinted, often
with a new forward so the reprint can be copyrighted making it seem that
the whole work is copyrighted. This includes numerous that can be
purchased from Amazon in both print and eBook formats.) Not to mention
that a number of these public domain books are no not available, even in
second hand book stores, or carry 3, 4 or more digit price tags (if you
can find them) because their copyrights have lapsed.

Project Gutenberg (http://www.gutenberg.org/wiki/Main_Page) was one of
the first to create a collection of eBooks of publications that are in
the public domain, all available for *free*. At first they were all in
plain text (ASCII) format. Before eBook readers became a phenomena
Project Gutenberg started adding HTML and PDF formatted books. (Now they
seem to be shifting to EPUB.)

My point is that:
        1. A version of Evince for Android doesn't exist, so I'm forced
to use Acrobat Reader. Yeech!
        2. Though Acrobat Reader does allow me to highlight text, add
notes, etc. it does not allow me to bookmark a page.
(Google's 'Play Books' does all this. However, I have to
subscribe to a service with a monthly fee to save all my notes
             etc.)

The suggestions then are:
        1. At least an Evince should be ported to Android. (Android is
based on Linux after all.);
2, Add book reading features to all versions.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
When PDF was first created, based on the way it worked and how it has
evolved, it seems to have intended for short documents (a few pages
long). i.e. pamphlets, hang tags, letters, forms, etc. PDF is now being
used for long documents. i.e. manuals, books, etc. Acrobat seems to be
attempting to keep up, I feel that Evince could do even better than Acrobat.
