Hi, it's a pity. yes. The reality being we don't have any developer
interested in spending the time to do the support until yest. There are two
possibilities in case someone would want to work on it:

1) there is a new thing called Gnome Books (done by a SoC intern), based on
Gnome-Documents that can reads epubs. eventually this could be converted
into a new Widget to read Epubs, and eventually could be integrated with
evince, but this is not trivial amount of work, as most of gnome books is
done in javascript I believe.


2) Mate desktop has Atril, which started as a fork of Evince 2.32. In a SoC
project for Mate, epub support was added to Atril (i believe this is still
not merged into master repository of atril). Since the libview, libdocument
and backend parts of atril are mostly the same as in Evince, these patches
could be eventually reworked so they can be added to evince (the main
difference is that atril supports gtk2 and gtk3, so someone would need to
remove all the gtk-version checks from the patches before submitting them
for inclusion in evince).
