Turns out that "make && make dist-xz" runs through. A diffstat with the official archive reports: 401 files changed, 5662 insertions(+), 8462 deletions(-) Most of those differences are in Makefiles.in, *.html, *.m4 files and other autoconf/automake output, and the ChangeLog. I will try to create an archive which includes your patch and build the package from that.
