If you run evolution-mail in a separate term, do you get something like "rebuilding tree took xxx seconds" ? If that happens, then there's some problem in the mailer rebuilding everything everytime anything changes, which i've seen before but only when you double-clicked a message (haven't updated though). No idea why its doing this, some logic broke in message-list I guess.
