evolution hackers,

it seems there are problems with libdb3 rigth & left, people loosing
their addressbooks or problems accesing it, compiling problems, etc...

as you all know, *user* data is a lot more important that the
application itself, user data should be valuable even if the
application is no more.

so I want to make a plea for storing user data (as the addressbook)
in evolution in a plain format (be xml, vcard, txt, whatever),
so I do not need the specialized app (evolution in this case)
to access *my* data.

or if I decided, I can run simple scripts to do tranformations
(ie. xml -> html, txt -> csv, etc) with my data

you guys decided in the design of evolution that messages are too
much important to store in a binary format, an addressbook is also
that important...

I have no rigth to tell you what you should do, but at least, please,
consider this option.

one problem that can arise is scalability, but if evolution can index
1000 messages so fast, why it cannot index 500 contacts ?
how many contacts the *normal* user have ? (no more than 200, IMO)
you guys are talented hackers, you can do it.

and you can get rid of the evil dependency of libdb3, if not,
libdb3 will cause nigthmares for the rest of your's life
(and user's life)...

regards,
/sergio
