Hmm, not quite so convinced about using it for alarms as I was for email notification :) At least until the notification area gets something like XP's status "balloons"[1], things happening in the notification can be quite easy to overlook (which is partly the point of having it in the first place), so I'm not sure if you'd want time critical things appearing there. It could certainly be an option, though. Some notification area guidelines in the HIG would help too, I'm working on that :) Cheeri, Calum.
