You were right, JP. I had to bit the bullet and install my own build in prefix /usr to test my own change. I had to first do "make distclean clean" and start completely from scratch, running autogen.sh with --prefix=/usr and so on. I also made sure that with the exception of enabling gtk-doc, my options matches as closely as possible the options used by my distro installer (Gentoo Portage). So now all is good.
So much for building and testing Evo in a sandbox, if that sandbox isn't a standalone computer! Please let me know where to post my patch or who to send it to when I think it's ready.
