GConf 1.0.9

Problem: When I add an LDAP contacts object (New contacts source), the new
settings ("Ok"-button) don't do something visible (like showing a new tree
branch) and won't be retrieved when I re-open the evolution program.
Questions:
How may I help to track down the issue?
What to "strace"?
What configuration file should reflect the LDAP setting?
When should it be written?
