Regarding your reply below, I am using version 2.2.3 with a linspire OS. I
did not see the option you described below when I go to the account editor.
If this option is only available in a later version how to get the update as
Linspire cnr only has 2.2.3 available.

There is the read receipt feature available in Evolution. You would go to
the "default" tab in the account settings and chose your Message receipt
settings for the account

you could use the configure option --with-nspr-libs,
--with-nspr-includes, --with-nss-libs, --with-nss-includes to point to
the exact location of your mozilla libs

You could google for mozilla-devel package, this should have the
necessary headers and libs.
AFAIK, almost all distros would provide this package, so getting this
should not be difficult
