sounds like http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=228929 to me.

change your account settings to "show subscribed mails only". then use
tools / subscribe to folders to subscribe to your inbox and any other
folder. you might need to restart Evo in between.

this has been fixed in evolution 2.4.2.1.
