For folders, you can simply copy them ... I ended up with the following
script :-

evo_dir=$HOME/.evolution/mail/local
thun_dir=$HOME/.thunderbird/lw605cps.default/Mail/dir
cd $thun_dir
for mbox in `find . -type f | xargs grep -l "^From"`
do
echo $mbox
mkdir -p $evo_dir/`dirname $mbox`
> $evo_dir/$mbox.cmeta
> $evo_dir/$mbox.ev-summary
> $evo_dir/$mbox.ev-summary-meta
> $evo_dir/$mbox.ibex.index
