However, I'm a little confused. The bugzilla says this is fixed, and following the git tree it seems that 2.30.2 contains the fix. I am running 2.30.2. Whilst I agree with your summary of how you would expect the sorting to work, I am not seeing that happening. In a folder of solely new messages, the newest one is highlighted, not the oldest one.
As to the IMAP folders sorting suddenly changing around, yes I occasionally see that. I put it down to the threading being re-sorted.
