I assume he means it is not properly indicating to Evolution *if* there
is an Internet/network connection.

Evolution works very well without a network connection; which is [aside
from a powerful interface] the huge advantage over webmail solutions.

I've never had any issues at all with NM so I can't really offer any
advice here.

Is it saying you are online when you are offline, or that you are
offline when you are online?
