Did you file a bug against alltray about their compiz issues?
As the FAQ states "GNOME includes a notification area to inform the user
about some special changes or events. It is not a system tray to
minimize applications to. However, you can abuse the notification area
to become a system tray by using external software (e.g.
http://alltray.trausch.us/)."
We do not want to "free the task bar" as it is against the concept of a
task bar.
