You can use either. Google supports both because some ISPs block one of
them. I have to use 587 for example.

Google recommends TLS, which Evo supports.

Correct, same here. You can also click on "Check for supported types".
If it seems to take forever, that's a clue that the SMTP port might be
wrong.
