Configurable base dirs means it's gonna take some doing to do it right.
Restore needs to honor current base dir settings, which may be different
from when the data was backed up.  Maybe improve the UX a little too
while I'm at it: a real progress bar would be nice, with maybe a time
remaining estimate.

Targeting 3.2.1 / 3.3.1.
