I figured it out: all GTk+ applications support it as
Ctrl+Shift Uxxxx
(i.e. you hold down Ctrl and Shift and type the hex Codepoint as Uxxxx)
for example U+2655 gives: ♥
Maybe for your account you know U+262d? :-)
