Ubuntu One is a virtual folder where you sync your contacts of ... well, Ubuntu
One. The data there isn't saved in your machine but in Ubuntu's servers. Is
like Google Contacts or Google Calendar.
Additionally read some time ago:
... hereafter Ubuntu One is to work with a database, particularly developed for
it. The development is running under the provisional code name U1DB, but up to
the publication of Ubuntu 12.04 LTS U1DB won´t be finished. That´s why the next
Ubuntu release will offer reduced synchronization possibilities only.
