Although I agree in principle with what you are saying, you need to be aware that some widely used distros ship with very old versions of software. The one that springs to mind is RHEL5 - it may not be the most recent version of RHEL, but it is still a maintained version and will be for about another 8 years or so - many commercial pieces of software still *require* RHEL5 - things move slowly in the non-hobbyist Linux scene! RHEL5 use Evo 2.12. Even RHEL6 ships with Evo 2.28, and that probably won't change for a long time. (And there's still RHEL3 & 4 in widespread use.) So the answer is that it is an old release no longer maintained by the Evolution developers. If the OP is running a current distro, then their best bet is getting support from the vendor, unless someone here remembers that far back. If they are not running a current distro release, then they really should update for many many reasons!
