That's what I eventually did.

I seem to remember that that was what 2.30 did, but I didn't see that
option in 3.4.1.
(Whichever mail directory path I gave, it essentially sucked all the
folders and mail out of it (apart from any Inbox, which it left in situ)
and put the rest in its subfolders.
Anyway, I got the whole show on the road.
