Well, I upgraded--which as I feared created any number of problems
itself, the biggest being that now 'suspend' won't work (or, better, I
can't come out of suspend) and no one seems to know what to do about
that.

But re this thread: I'm still getting the problem of appointment edits
not being saved, now with Fedora 17 and Evo 3.4.4. It seems to happen
when I restart the computer. If I go in and kill
evolution-calendar-factory, the appointment update works OK. But
apparently evolution-calendar-factory is not shutting down when
evolution shuts down.

BTW, if I edit the appointment on the calendar page rather than opening
the appointment, it behaves properly, saving the edit.
