The problem is that evolution takes a long time before finding out that (if) a mail server is not available. In that time it is not possible to close Evo. Cancelling transmission typically makes Evo hang.

Just cleanup your $PREFIX and build from scratch, there is nothing wrong with the commit, as long as you use up-to-date evolution and other dependencies of the changed package (evolution-data-server in this case). By the way, I'm not sure why you mention evolution-ews in the subject, when the failed package was evolution itself. Not that it changes anything from the above :) (that's OK, you probably only overlooked the compile error place). Hi, I second poc's answer, I only want to mention that there is no option to change this behaviour, the composer window will always stay opened and sends the message immediately. I do not know whether there is any bug report for this, though if there is, and if there will be enough demand, then this can be changed, more or less easily. Nonetheless, I second poc's answer, because I'm unsure how this change may help you in your situation, because the only difference might be that you postpone the message send on later, but still through the same server as you have configured in your account settings. For a long time before that there has been support for Maildir in the form of a "Server" type of "Maildir-format mail directories" and that option is still there. Do you not see that in the drop down "Server Type" list? Hi, "support for maildir used as server type", I guess you mean by that that it uses maildir as its storage for locally stored mails (under On This Computer) instead of mbox format, which is still true. I do not know what you are trying to achieve, but this is done by default, not influenced by a user. You can open any maildir folder in evolution by creating a new account of type "Maildir-format mail directories", and point it to that particular folder.
